Nestled in the centre of Europe and with a large number of tourist-friendly towns, Germany is quickly becoming a popular holiday destination for people hoping to soak up the German culture and sample the wonderful beer and cuisine unique to the region.  Germany has a large population of over eighty million and enjoys a temperate seasonal climate that sees warm summers and quite cold winters (snow is common).  In the Alps and on the coast of the North and Baltic Seas colder weather is commonplace, whilst the Rhine, Danube and Elbe rivers can experience warmer weather, particularly in summer.   Germany has a number of major cities that are popular amongst holidaymakers including Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Nuremberg, and Cologne.  Berlin is popular for shopping and for seeing the sights (the remnants of the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate and various World War II sites are always busy), as is Munich (home of the Oktoberfest).  Frankfurt is a major financial and transportation centre, whilst Hamburg is renowned for it's harbour district.
